Phodiso House is a non-profit company established with the sole purpose of providing treatment to patients who may not have the financial means to afford private mental health care.
South Africa is facing a significant mental health crisis that is multifaceted and deeply rooted in the nation’s socio-economic, historical, and cultural contexts. This crisis is marked by high prevalence of mental disorders, inadequate mental health services, widespread stigma, and discrimination against those affected by mental illness.
The burden of mental illness in South Africa is substantial. Studies indicate that one in three South Africans will experience a mental health issue in their lifetime. Depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders are particularly prevalent, with the latter being exacerbated by high levels of alcohol and drug abuse. The prevalence of these conditions is not limited to any specific demographic; rather, it cuts across all age groups, genders, and socio-economic strata. Notably, vulnerable populations, such as those living in poverty, victims of violence and trauma, as well as individuals with HIV/AIDS, are disproportionately affected by mental health issues.
Shamar Clinic embraces our social responsibility to address this disparity in mental health accessibility and treatment. To bridge this accessibility gap, we have founded a non profit organisation named Phodiso House.
We channel resources and support to those in need, ensuring that they receive the care and treatment necessary for their healing journey. Our vision is to establish strategic partnerships with like-minded donors and philanthropic organisations who share our view of creating a more equitable mental health landscape. Phodiso House NPC is totally reliant on donations and charitable contributions to make this work possible and effective.
At Phodiso House, our mission is to create a supportive and healing environment for all individuals, regardless of their financial situation, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to receive the mental health care they deserve. Phodiso House and Shamar Clinic are currently under construction. To better serve our community, we are seeking your assistance. Any contribution will go a long way.
Shamar Clinic has partnered up with Phodiso House in order to bridge the gap in the disparity in mental health accessibility and treatment within our society. We recognise that there is a significant divide, with privileged sectors having easier access to quality care, while the less privileged are left with limited options that do not prioritise their healing and wholeness. This inequality greatly concerns us, and it is our mission to bring about meaningful change. For more info on Shamar clinic follow the link below.
